Elementary school is always fun to be with! I get to go with Sophal Today, we went to Sophal's and our host family's mom's home town! Lots of memories for them! We went to this school to have helmet observations, to conduct interviews with school principle, teachers, and parents. Inside of the school will have a Buddha in the middle.
Students in school are very curious and shy. They want to get to know you but they do not want to get near you. Therefore, they would push other student to have a closer distant to me. Everyone would call us, the foreigners, HELLO. After they said "Hello", I said "How are you?" They replied "eleven!" :) Kids are AWESOME! I love them!
This school condition is not so good. Dirt road, smells really bad. Inside of the classroom is dark, there are no light, lights are from the sun; they are forced to open the window to let the lights in. Wooden tables and chairs, very unfurnished. Students in here are very happy; although they hit each other with a helmet or a book, after one hit, they would just laugh really hard. Cambodian learned to laugh when things are not done correctly.
In the school, we have helmet safety promotion!
On the way back to the office, 2 incidence had happened. In the early morning, Sophal learned that I do not drink tea, coffee, and alcohol. He said, "no alcohol, but you can drink beer!" We still have argument about it. He is doing all he can to convince me to drink alcohol, just a little. One moment, he said "I see why you don't drink, because it's a prevention! You study prevention, not drinking is a prevention!" I am grateful for the epiphany came to him and understand my religion.
It was after lunch, we have enjoyed ourselves by the riverside and charged up to work. We would sleep on a net, and swing back and forth. It is very comfortable that causes you to sleep!
After lunch, Sophal said to the driver in a commanding form! The driver pulled over and Sophal left the car. I asked the volunteers what he is doing. One volunteer said "he is shooting rabbit!" I asked "what is he shooting the rabbit with?"
"He is looking for a weapon!"
"this is so random" I thought. When Sophal got back, the volunteer asked me to ask Sophal where the rabbit is. So I asked
"Sophal, where is the rabbit? I thought you were shooting a rabbit!"
All of us laughed SO hard! Sophal asked me what they have told me, then I told him what they have said. Sophal said is softly "小便!" I was shocked! I didn't know that you can shoot rabbit with that! Later, Sophal said, "before a man marry a woman, the mother of the man would say the woman is a rabbit. But once they are married, the woman become a tiger!" It seems like he has an experience on that! :)
